Tata Steel 2024 R4: Praggnanandhaa beats Ding Liren second year in-a-row, becomes the new India no.1
Rameshbabu Praggnanandhaa scored an emphatic victory against the reigning world champion Ding Liren in the fourth round of 86th Tata Steel Masters 2024. Praggnanandhaa managed to win against Ding Liren for the second consecutive year at the same event, round and also color. He is now India no.1 in live ratings. After Vishy Anand, he becomes the second Indian to beat a reigning world champion in a Classical rated game. Gukesh lost to Anish Giri in a long endgame grind. This win propelled Giri to sole lead. Vidit Gujrathi drew against Jorden van Foreest comfortably. Leon Luke Mendonca lost against Erwin L'Ami from a promising position. Today,17th January, is the first of three rest days. Round 5 pairings: Vidit v Max Warmerdam, Gukesh v Ian Nepomniachtchi, Praggnanandhaa v Giri, IM Divya Deshmukh v GM Mustafa Yilmaz and Harika Dronavalli v Leon. The fifth round starts tomorrow Thursday 18th January at 2 p.m. local time, 6:30 p.m. IST.

It's a massive development for Indian chess. One of the biggest conglomerates, not just in the country, but across the world - the Adani Group, has decided to support to R. Praggnanandhaa in his journey to becoming the World Champion. The India no.2 and one of the biggest talents in the world of chess Pragg has entered into a long term sponsorship agreement with the Adani Group. Breakfast at Anands! - The start of a new tradition?
How difficult is it to get together 15 GMs and 21 titled players in one house on a Sunday morning for breakfast? Sounds impossible, doesn't it? What if we said it was not only possible, but 3 out of these players are top 25 in the world! This can happen only in one city in the world and that place in Chennai. The wonderful breakfast was hosted by Vishy and Aruna Anand and we bring you all the pictures from the this beautiful gathering. It not only had strong players, but also their family members who joined in. Vidit Gujrathi's simul at Ambit House in Mumbai
January 2024 is going to be an important month for Vidit Gujrathi as he gets ready for Tata Steel Masters in Wijk Aan Zee. However, just before he took his flight to Amsterdam, Vidit decided to spend a day at Ambit House in Mumbai. Along with meeting the top management team of Ambit, Vidit played a simultaneous exhibition with 17 opponents. This proved to be an exciting one as some of the players gave quite a tough fight to the India no.3. We bring you some moments from this beautiful evening.

Vedant Panesar becomes the latest International Master from Mumbai
20-year-old Vedant Panesar became India's latest International Master in December 2023. The Mumbai lad earned his maiden IM-norm at Maia Open 2022 in Maia, Portugal. A year, a month and half later, he earned his second IM-norm at Qatar Masters 2023. Ten days later, he started playing at Vezerkepzo Fall GM 2023, where he scored his final IM-norm. Vedant crossed 2400 rating barrier in December 2023 FIDE Rating list as his Elo rating showed 2445. He also scored his fourth and fifth IM-norms consecutively after earning his final IM-norm.
