Gukesh returns to World no.6, Arjun stays World no.4

Arjun Erigaisi and D Gukesh maintained their place in World top ten in FIDE Rating list August 2024. After months of non-stop action, Arjun finally took some rest. Thus, his rating remained unchanged. D Gukesh gained a valuable 3.2 Elo rating points at Superbet Chess Classic Romania to move to World no.6. Praggnanandhaa's tough run at 57th Biel Chess Festival GMT dropped him to no.12. Currently, there are four Indians in top 12, five in top 22, six in top 31, seven in top 39 and eleven in top 83. Among the Women, there are three Indians in top 12 and four in top 18. GM R Vaishali moved up to World no.11 and India no.2 among women after her fantastic performance at Biel Festival GMT. GM Harika Dronavalli returned to 2500+ club. IM Divya Deshmukh moved to World no.18 among Women. Both Harika and Divya gained their rating at IsBankasi Turkiye Super League. World Rapid Team 2024 R5-8: Al-Ain ACMG UAE emerges sole leader, MGD1 maintains pursuit

Al-Ain ACMG UAE has emerged sole leader 14/16 after Round 8 of World Rapid Team Championship 2024. They started the day by handing WR Chess their second consecutive loss. Then they drew with one of then coleaders, Chessy. Royal Chess and Q4Rail Kingsofchess Krakow were the next two teams to go down against the sole leader. Decade China is the only other team who is undefeated along with the sole leader. They are at 13/16. Chessy and MGD1 are third place 12/16 each. MGD1 defeated Chessy to finish the day on a high note and reduce the gap. Magnus Carlsen's team, the defending champions are lagging behind at fifth place 11/16 with Ashdod Chess Club. Sriram Adarsh Uppala and Tejaswini G are the 34th National Under-17 Open and Girls Chess Champions 2024

Sriram Adarsh Uppala (TEL) and WIM Tejaswini G (TN) scored an unbeaten 9.5/11 and 8.5/11 each to win 34th National Under-17 Open and Girls Chess Championship 2024 respectively. Arpith S Bijoy (KER) also scored 9.5/11. He secured second on tie-breaks. Four players - FM Jaiveer Mahendru (MAH), Nandish V S (TN), Abhinav Raj (DEL) and Mukund Hemant Agarwal (GUJ) scored 8.5/11 each. They were placed third to sixth respectively. In the Girls event, three more - Kirthika B (TEL), WCM Anupam M Sreekumar (KER) and Sravyasree Bheemarasetty (AP) also scored 8.5/11 each. They finish at second to fourth place according to tie-breaks. This is Sriram's second overall, first rating tournament triumph of the year. Savitha Shri B is the 13th Indian female to become an International Master

WGM Savitha Shri B became the 12th Indian woman to earn the International Master. The 16-year-old crossed the 2400 rating barrier when she had a 2435 published rating list in September 2022. She secured her final WGM and first IM-norm at Fagernes GM Open 2023. In less than two months, she scored her second IM-norm again in Norway at Norway Chess Open 2023. A year a less than a month later, she secured her final IM-norm at 40th Andorra Open 2024. Thus, she became India's latest IM on 28th July in Andorra. The former Asian Junior Girls Gold medalist and youngest World Rapid Women Bronze medal winner, Savitha Shri is definitely going to aim for the highest title - Grandmaster. Jules Moussard triumphs at 4th La Plagne Masters 2024, Raja Rithvik second and Iniyan third

GM Jules Moussard (FRA) scored an unbeaten 7.5/9 to win 4th La Plagne Masters (>1950) 2024. Four Indians - GM Raja Rithvik R, GM Pa Iniyan, GM Prraneeth Vuppala and IM Bala Chandra Prasad Dhulipalla scored 7/9 each. They were placed second to fifth according to tie-breaks respectively. Top two remained undefeated. WGM-elect Sakshi Chitlange scored 5.5/9 to earn her second IM-norm. The total prize fund of Masters was €16000. The top three prizes were €3000, €2300 and €1700 along with a trophy each. The seven-day nine round Rating Open tournament was organized by Cercle d'Échecs du Bassin Annemassien in La Plagne, France from 6th to 12th July 2024. GM Koustav Chatterjee and GM Mitrabha Guha were two more Indians to make a top ten finish. They scored 6.5/9 each to be placed ninth and tenth respectively.
