ECCC R5: Arjun Erigaisi becomes the second Indian and overall 16th to cross 2800

Arjun Erigaisi defeated Dmitry Andreikin in Round 5 of 38th European Chess Club Cup 2024, to cross 2800 in live ratings. He became the second Indian after Vishy Anand and 16th player in the world to reach this elusive club. Arjun's present live rating is 2802.1. His exact rating will be known in November FIDE Rating list. His extremely impressive rise to the top is astonishing because he did not take the well-trodden path of playing only round-robin tournaments. Instead, he played a lot of open tournaments where the risk was much more compared to the reward. Vidit Gujrathi and Pentala Harikrishna won their respective games to power their team Novy Bor Chess Club to sole lead with a perfect 10/10. Round 6 starts today at 3 p.m. local time, 6:30 p.m. IST.
